"Hipsters vs. Monsters" minicomic

"Hipsters vs. Monsters" is a little 20-page comic book that I just finished and which I'm going to self-publish in time for the Comicfestival München. If you are not going to attend the Comicfestival and don't have any other chance to meet me in person, you can order it via E-Mail for 2 € (+0.60 € shipping in Germany). Below is the cover and a 3-page preview (click to enlarge).

Story synopsis from the back of the book (in German):
"Das kleine Monster Xovi und seine Freunde finden in ihrer Welt ein Portal, das sie geradewegs in die Herrentoilette des enorm angesagten 'Red Star Club' führt. Doch die ortsansässigen Hipster sind nicht gerade begeistert über die ungebetenen Gäste..."

JAZAM! vol. 4

The new volume of the German independent comic anthology JAZAM! is almost here. The book (with the theme "monsters") is currently in print and can be pre-ordered at our newly redesigned website. We will present and sell the book at the Munich Comicfestival (June 11-14).

The book is 356 pages strong, costs 15 €, and contains comics and illustrations by 68 different artists from Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Plenty of previews and all kinds of JAZAM!-related news can be found on our blog.

I'm one of the editors of the book, responsible for layout and design, and contributed an 11-page comic story and one page for a cool comicjam. These are the first two pages of my story "Nutzmenschen" (click to enlarge):

sometimes I'm afraid that people are going to eat me

This is one of my rare non-digital works. It's a pastel drawing/painting mix done on a huge cardboard. Took me quite a while to finish because I wasn't sure about that little guy in the middle.

more JAZAM! stuff

Another one-panel preview for JAZAM! Vol. 4, this time from my 11-page story "Nutzmenschen" ("production humans").

The wonderful cover by Daniela Uhlig has also been revealed on our blog, along with lots of previews from the book. Click on the image below to get there:

JAZAM! jam preview

In the fourth volume of JAZAM!, there will be not only my previously mentioned 11-page comic, but also a fun 13-page comicjam, of which I drew one page. Here's a panel from said page:

after a long break...

...I finally got to do some life drawing again in the last week of my internship at HahnFilm in Berlin. We mostly did very short poses (30 sec. - 2 min.), which was great for practice but didn't produce a whole lot of presentable results. Still, I scanned a small selection:

happy new year!

Although it looks like I'm going to spend new year's eve at home alone and sick in bed, that will not keep me from wishing you all a very happy new year!

English translation might follow later. Right now I'm not well enough for that...

transformation animation

An animated short film, done digitally in Flash. I originally did this for a university project involving advertising for a furniture manufacturer. Luckily, it was a fairly open project, so I could do what I wanted, as long as it involved one of their pieces of furniture in some way. And since I wanted to try out hand-drawn animation, I made this:

lifelines 2

I haven't been posting much (or, like, at all) for the last few weeks because I recently started a five-month internship at HahnFilm, a Berlin-based animation studio, and therefore haven't found much time to work on my own stuff. The internship is lots of fun and pretty challenging, though.

One thing I hadn't shown here yet is this this one year-old entry in my Lifelines series:

This one is a colored variant of an older one which was made into a screenprint:

first page of new sci-fi comic

This is the first page of a short, somewhat trashy sci-fi comic I've been working on for a while. It was originally intended to be published in Perry - unser Mann im All but since they didn't like it, the comic's going to be printed in the new sci-fi magazine Ferne Welten with a few changes. However, since Ferne Welten is going to be printed in black & white, I am not going to color the rest of the pages. The coloring on this page isn't entirely finished either, but I just wanted to show it to make the work feel a little less in vain. ;)

EDIT: the comic's gonna be published in color after all, so I just uploaded the final version of the page. I don't really like the style anymore, though...
