Secret Santa

This year, Jojo Kretzschmar (aka Beetlebum) had the idea of doing a German Webcomics Secret Santa, which is pretty cool, right? Each participating webcomic artist did a guest comic or artwork for another randomly selected webcomic or comic blog. I was pleasantly surprised when I got this wonderful little comic from my buddy Jeff Chi (he of Spinken) a couple of days ago:

I, myself, was assigned Kaydee and her webcomic "I Give You Dinosaur," for which I drew this:

You can find the German version on her blog. Here's a complete list of all participants:

ANNIE The Little Cannibal (24h comic)

Back in April, I drew a 24h comic at the 24hcd event in Leipzig, which I then published in printed form in my book "48 Stunden Angst." Now, I finally translated the comic and uploaded it on the Hipsters website. Click on the first page to read the whole thing:

International Self Portrait Day 2013

Today is International Self Portrait Day, which is why I drew this:

I feel like I may have gotten the likeness more right in this scribble, which is why I want to show I to you, too:

HIPSTERS in Hell, pts. 14 & 15 & 16

A lot of work (on some pretty cool games!) has lead to me having very little time for the comic lately. Here are the three strips I managed to draw over the past two months or so:

HIPSTERS in Hell, pts. 12 & 13

I'm currently working on a big comic project for a client, so I don't have as much time for the Hipsters as I'd like. But these are the strips I managed to do this month:

life drawing

After I hadn't gotten around to it in several years, I finally managed to do some life drawing again when Munich drawing studio Akthof offered some free lessons today. I felt a bit rusty, but I'm gonna show you some of the results, anyway:

HIPSTERS in Hell, pts. 6 & 7 & 8

For these three strips, I experimented with animated panels for the first time, and I quite like it. I'm probably going to use it some more in upcoming comics.

Comicfestival München 2013

Starting tomorrow, I'll be at the Munich Comicfestival, having a great time and signing comics at the JAZAM! booth (AR33). Among the comics I'll be signing is the new volume of JAZAM!, for which I've contributed an illustration and done all of the editorial design, as usual. Here's our beautiful cover by Maike Plenzke:

Also at the JAZAM! booth, I'll be selling and signing "48 Stunden Angst," my new mini book containing both of my 24h comics. While you can already read one of them, Infiltrated, online in its entirety, the other one is all-new. Here are the first two pages:

If you're in Munich for the festival, you should also check out the A Tribute to Robert Crumb exhibition, which includes an illustration of mine.

Oh, and on thursday at 3:00 pm, I'll be part of a panel discussion about independent comics publishers at Altes Rathaus.

I hope to see you there! But if you can't make it to Munich this weekend, you can order both of the books at Kwimbi Webcomic Shop: order JAZAM! vol. 8 and order 48 Stunden Angst (both will be signed by me)

JAZAM! vol. 8 is also available at our own shop: JAZAM! shop

HIPSTERS in Hell, pts. 1 & 2

The new Hipsters storyline has started! And it’s not a “Hipsters Vs. …” thing, either. I have a feeling this is gonna be my most ambitious storyline yet. It also might be the last one. There are only so many hipster jokes you can make, after all… But don’t worry, I’m sure I’ll be able to drag this out for a year or so.

Here are the first two installments:

A Tribute to Robert Crumb

Alright... after teasing you for weeks, I'm finally going to show you my full illustration for "A Tribute to Robert Crumb," as it appears at the exhibition at Amerika Haus München and in the Edition 52 book that has just come out. Click on the cover (by none other than Charles freakin' Burns!) to buy the book at Amazon.de:

The book (& exhibition) contains a ton of amazing artwork and comix by some international stars and some of the finest German cartoonists. And little old me. So, without further ado, here's my contribution:

A Tribute to Robert Crumb - the exhibition

Starting tonight, you can see my Robert Crumb tribute illustration at Amerika Haus München. The vernissage will be tonight at 8pm (I've heard there's free wine!) and the exhibition will stay open for the next couple of weeks, all the way through Comicfestival München. Here's what my illustration looks like on the wall:

Pixel Hipsters (Comic Collab #20)

After wanting to do so for months, I finally managed to participate in one of Schlogger's so-called "Comic Collabs." It's basically a fixed date at which lots of German comic bloggers upload comics (& stuff) with a common topic. This month's topic is "pixel," and while I didn't have time to do a comic, I made these pixel versions of my Hipsters characters:

Here are some of the other participants:

48 Stunden Angst

While I contributed "only" illustrations and no comics to JAZAM! vol. 8 and A Tribute to Robert Crumb, you'll still be able to buy some new comics by me at Comicfestival München later this month. Over the last few days, I've prepared "48 Stunden Angst" (48 Hours of Fear), a small comic book containing both of the 24h comics I've drawn in the past year. Whereas you can already read "Infiltrated" online, this will be the only way to read last month's "Anni, die kleine Kannibalin" (Annie, the Little Cannibal) for now. I'll show some pages from it on the blog soon, but for now, here's the cover of the mini book:

24h comic day Leipzig

Halfway through the last 24h comic day I swore I'd never do one again. So naturally, I did one again only half a year later. Last weekend, a number of cool German webcomic artists and I went to Leipzig and spent 24 hours at the great location current Hipsters guest artist Hillerkiller had dug up, drawing 24 comic pages, battling sleepiness and sore drawing hands, and eating lots of snacks (secretly the most important part of 24hcd). I don't think my comic turned out as well as my last one, but you'll be able to judge for yourself, soon.

I'll need a few days to scan my pages, do some slight corrections and an English translation, but I'll definitely present them here on the blog once I'm done. Here's how they looked on the wall in Leipzig just after I'd finished:

And here's a photo by Ulf Salzmann:

A Tribute to Robert Crumb - preview 2

I already showed you one little snippet from my contribution to the "A Tribute to Robert Crumb" book, and here's another one:

I'll post the whole thing a little bit closer to the exhibition at Comicfestival München in late May.

HIPSTERS vs. Robots pts. 35 & 36

Here they are, the final two parts of Hipsters Vs. Robots:

Read the whole thing from the start RIGHT HERE. All the other storylines are available in the archive.

It’ll be a couple of weeks before I start with the next storyline, but in the meantime, there will be a couple of cool guest comics from some cartoonist friends of mine.

A Tribute to Robert Crumb - preview

I was very honored to be asked to be a part of the "A Tribute to Robert Crumb" book and exhibition at the Comicfestival München this year, even though I only had a few days to complete my contribution. I'm not going to show you the whole thing just yet, but here's a first little snippet from my R. Crumb tribute:

Comichöhle podcast interview

Last week, I was a guest on the new German webcomic podcast "Comichöhle," where I talked about Hipsters, JAZAM!, and my band Affection Play. The interview was released today and you can listen to it right here:
